Shinji Kagawa has sent a good luck message to Liverpool’s newest signing Takumi Minamino after The Reds confirmed a deal for the exciting midfielder on Thursday afternoon – and heaped praise on Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
Minamino, 24, has agreed a move to Liverpool after a £7.25million release clause was activated by the Reds. Minamino has shone in the Champions League for RedBull Salzburg this season, even scoring at Anfield against Klopp’s men.
This season, the 22-time Japan international has clocked up nine goals and created 11 more alongside the likes of Erling Haaland in just 22 appearances. Now, he will be wearing the red of Liverpool from January 1.
Former Manchester United star Kagawa – who is currently playing for Real Zaragoza in Spain’s second division – congratulated his Japan teammate and his former Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp on Twitter.
His Tweet is translated as: “Congrats! Do not start the best challenge! Believe yourself and do your best under the best director in the world! I will do my best!”

Minamino will be tasked with breaking into the Liverpool side but will face the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Adam Lallana as competition. The latter, though, is likely to leave with his contract ending in the summer.
The Japanese ace could make his debut for the club against Sheffield United at Anfield on January 2. If that comes too soon, than the Reds take on Everton in the third round of the FA Cup at Anfield three days later.
