Sheyi Ojo’s form out on loan spells bad news for Liverpool future

Sheyi Ojo signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool before departing on loan in the summer, but his form suggests that any chances of becoming a regular at Anfield in the near future are bleak.

The 21-year-old attacker is a product of the club’s academy and is currently on his fourth spell out on loan from the Merseyside club.

He’s previously had mediocre stints at English teams Wigan Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham, but completed a season-long loan abroad in the last window.

He’s struggled to set the world alight during previous spells in England, with last season with Fulham arguably the only positive.

Ojo was part of the team that won promotion from the Championship and scored four goals in 24 appearances across all competitions.

The fleet-footed wide man has quick dribbling and is good on the ball, but is lacking the cutting edge in the final third and needs to improve his decision making.

Harry Wilson (Derby County) is an example of a youngster thriving out on loan from Liverpool and looks good enough to make a first-team breakthrough in the future, but Ojo still has some way to go to disrupt the current Reds attackers.

Ojo has completed 90 minutes in just two of his nine appearances for Reims so far this campaign and is still waiting to chalk up his first goal or assist.
