Sherwood rubbishes claims Pochettino works with ‘limited resources’

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood believes Mauricio Pochettino isn’t working with ‘limited resources’, contrary to popular opinion.

Pochettino regularly draws praise for the work he has done at Spurs without the same spending power as the other top Premier League clubs.

The Argentine coach has totally transformed Spurs in terms of style since he became manager in 2014, although the club are yet to win a trophy under him.

In the eyes of his predecessor Sherwood though, Pochettino has not been deprived in terms of signing new players as many feel he has.

Despite the club having not signed a player for the last two transfer windows, he told talkSPORT: “I wouldn’t agree with ‘limited resources’. It’s obviously not the same as Man City’s resources, but who has that?

“He’s signed 20 (sic) players since he’s been at the club, so they’ve given him an opportunity to build a squad and he’s happy with the squad he’s got.

“If you ask me, ‘Would he want to leave?’ I’d say no. I think he’s happy with the squad he’s got.

“We’re comparing him with Liverpool and Man City which is wrong.”

Does Sherwood have a point?

Sherwood’s views are probably unlikely to be shared by the majority.

Spurs’ club-record signing is Davinson Sanchez at £42 million (BBC Sport), which is the lowest out of any of the other top six clubs.

Their wage bill and net spend are both lower than their Premier League rivals.

Sherwood is perhaps looking at the job Pochettino has done in terms of coaching his players.

The way he has improved them all makes it seem like Tottenham aren’t that far off, but in reality the finances put them at a big disadvantage.
