Sheffield Wednesday are in talks with Chelsea over the permanent signing of defender Michael Hector, according to Goal.
The centre-back was mightily impressive for the Owls during a season-long loan spell in 2018/19, making 39 appearances.
Wednesday have been working hard to get a deal over the line all summer. There is, however, a genuine fear that the club might struggle to agree on a price with Chelsea.
The 27-year-old has failed to make a single first-team appearance for the Blues having joined from Reading for £4 million in 2015.
Chelsea are keen to recoup at least what they paid for the uncompromising defender should they allow him to leave this summer.
Wednesday’s transfer activity could go to the wire.
Hector would arguably be the best piece of business all summer.
He was a revelation during the 2018/19 campaign and his strong performances saw him established a rapport with the Wednesday faithful.
Despite not being fancied for promotion this season, a strong end to the transfer window could see them among the dark horses for a place in the play-offs.
Securing Hector could be instrumental to a good season.
