Liam Cooper helped Scotland progress into Euro 2020’s final play-off round ahead of next summer’s competition with a penalty-shootout win over Israel – and Oli McBurnie has delivered a two-word verdict on the Leeds United captain’s display.

Cooper, 29, is quickly becoming a Leeds legend after captaining the Whites to their first Premier League return since 2004. He surpassed 200 appearances for the club earlier this season, remaining first choice under Marcelo Bielsa.

Such has his improvement been under Bielsa, Cooper is now first choice for Scotland and earned his fourth cap for his country on Thursday night – as Scotland took on Israel in a Euro 2020 play-off semi-final clash at home.

Cooper posted on Instagram after helping Scotland beat Israel and earn a place in the final play-off round, albeit on penalties after 120 minutes of action. Cooper almost ended the chances of penalties with a header that his the post in extra-time.

Scotland are now just one match away from reaching a major competition for the first time since qualifying for the 1998 World Cup. However, they are up against it, as they travel to Serbia in November to earn a place in next summer’s tournament.

Sheffield United and Leeds-born star McBurnie gave a two-word verdict on Cooper’s performance in response to his Instagram, describing him as a “rolls royce” – while Luke Ayling also applauded the defender.
