Sheffield United supporters dig out Stearman for his part in shock Barnet loss

Sheffield United suffered a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of National League outfit Barnet in the third round of the FA Cup yesterday, thanks to a penalty from former Tottenham Hotspur striker Shaquile Coulthirst.

The Blades are riding high in the Championship – just two points and one place below the promised land of the automatic promotion spots – while the Bees are in mid-table in the fifth tier.

That led Chris Wilder to believe that he could make a host of changes to offer his first team stars an opportunity to rest for challenges ahead while still booking a place in the fourth round, but it wasn’t to be.

The Bramall Lane faithful booed their side off the pitch after witnessing a disjointed, limp performance from their side and experienced central defender Richard Stearman was among the worst offenders.

The former Wolves man hacked down Ephron Mason-Clark as he ran through after 20 minutes to offer up the opportunity that ended up winning the day and sealing an embarrassing afternoon for the promotion-chasers.

At a time of the season when transfer moves are being made up and down the country, it wasn’t a good time to put in a below-par performance and these Blades fans took aim at Stearman on Twitter…
