Sheffield United midfielder John Fleck has told Sky Sports that he is keen to return to Rangers at some point in his career, eight years after leaving the club to join Coventry City – and 12 years after his competitive debut for the Gers.
Fleck, 28, is currently impressing with Sheffield United in the Premier League – having scored five top-tier goals in 25 appearances for Chris Wilder’s side. The Blades are in contention to qualify for European football.
The Scotland international came through the ranks at Rangers and made 55 senior appearances for the Gers before leaving the club in 2012 – following the financial collapse of the Gers, which forced them to start again in the fourth tier.
Now, Rangers are back in the big time with Steven Gerrard as manager. Asked if he would consider a return to Rangers at some point in his career, Fleck stated that he would “love” to pull on the Light Blue shirt again.

“I’m very happy at Sheffield United,” Fleck said, when asked about a return to Rangers. “As long as that continues, then great. But if the chance came along, down the line, then I would love it – to be honest.
“I wouldn’t say I have unfinished business because I was a very small part of a successful team, back then.”
TBR’s view – Fleck too expensive for Rangers right now
The Daily Record claimed Arsenal were tracking him over a potential deal in the January window, with The Sheffield Star saying a £20million fee was mooted. Such interest comes as little surprise, given Fleck has starred in the top tier this season.
Right now, Fleck is too expensive for Rangers – especially given the current global health crisis. But as Fleck enters his thirties, the former Blackpool midfielder could well return to Ibrox, like Allan McGregor and Steven Davis have done under Gerrard.
