Sheffield United loanee Dean Henderson has been called up by England.

Henderson receives his first call-up to the England senior squad after spending time with the U21s in the past. The Sheffield United goalkeeper replaced Aston Villa’s Tom Heaton – who has picked up an injury.

England have two European Championship qualifiers coming up over the weekend and Henderson will be in contention for places. Although he is unlikely to make his debut this time, it shows that Gareth Southgate rates the 22-year-old as a future England number one.

Henderson has been in fine form for Sheffield United this season – barring one mistake against Liverpool. The Manchester United stopper, who is on loan at Bramall Lane for the second time, has only conceded seven goals in eight games this season.

He will now be tasked with pushing Jordan Pickford and Nick Pope for the starting England jersey. Henderson got the call-up ahead of Jack Butland, Joe Hart, Angus Gunn and others.

Blades supporters believe Henderson’s inclusion is fully justified. Here are some tweets from Sheffield United fans who are proud to have Henderson in the England squad.
