Shearer says Tottenham have a 'fantastic' player that has 'everything you need', after win over Aston Villa
Alan Shearer has told Match of the Day that Tottenham star Son Heung-min is a “fantastic” player, as Spurs edged past Aston Villa with a 2-1 win.
Son, 29, got two assists on Sunday afternoon in North London – as Spurs ended a run of three league losses with a win over Dean Smith’s side.
Firstly, the South Korea skipper played a perfect pass to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to score – the Dane curling an effort into the corner from 20 yards.
Aston Villa equalised in the second 45, a nicely-worked goal that saw Ollie Watkins prod the ball home from close range – after an England call-up.
But Son’s genius put Spurs back ahead. Steaming down the left after a neat turn, the £22million (Mirror) signing found Lucas Moura to tap home.
The goal was officially given as a Matt Targett own goal, but Son was crucial to both goals. Shearer was full of praise, saying he is a big fan of the winger.
“When he plays like that, there’s not many defenders that can live with him, he’s got everything you need. Pace, energy,” Shearer said.
“Drive to get in there, goals, assists. I’m such a huge fan of his, they couldn’t cope with him – he was the difference, you can’t stop him. Fantastic player.”
Shearer on Son: Can he be Tottenham catalyst for change?
It always makes such a difference to go into the international break with a win. If you lose, you end up having a scratch you cannot itch for two weeks.
You have to wait until the break is over before returning to club action and finally looking to put things right. Spurs needed to win, after three losses.
A good week for Spurs, Harry Kane getting a hat-trick against Mura before Son’s sensational display. Tottenham have relieved some of the pressure.
Son can change things. He has the power to do so and without Kane firing in the league just yet, Spurs need Son to step up. On Sunday, he did.
Spurs will now be hoping their players remain injury free and the Argentine stars return after isolating in time to face Newcastle.
