Shearer names Liverpool star he'd love to have played with
Alan Shearer has told the Premier League website that he would love to have played alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold as he named the Liverpool star in his team of the season so far.
Alexander-Arnold has been in superb form for Liverpool during this campaign. It is easy to forget that he fell out of the England fold last season. And his place in the Euro 2020 squad appeared to be in some doubt before he withdrew due to injury.
He has responded amazingly this season. No player in the top-flight has provided more assists than the 23-year-old. Alexander-Arnold has nine, along with Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah.
He has set up both Salah and Sadio Mane for two Premier League goals each this season. And Shearer has suggested that the right-back is the player that every striker would want in their side as he named in his Premier League team of the season so far.
“A forward’s dream,” he told the Premier League website. “I would love to have played with him. Gets into so many good positions going forward. The quality of his ball never really disappoints.”
Alexander-Arnold on course for most prolific season yet for Liverpool
Alexander-Arnold is certainly on course for his best assists return in a league season. Currently, his best tally is 13. Meanwhile, he contributed 12 the year before.
Liverpool have 18 more games. And they will set their sights on putting as much pressure on Manchester City as possible while the title race is not decided.
Of course, Jurgen Klopp’s side’s task will not be easy with Salah and Mane amongst those away on international duty.
But with players such as Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson putting balls into the box, Liverpool’s remaining attacking players will certainly not be short of opportunities in the weeks ahead.
