Shearer hails ‘man of the match’ Guimaraes after Newcastle win

Alan Shearer was on punditry duty for Newcastle United’s crucial 1-0 win over Wolves and hailed Bruno Guimaraes.

The Brazilian midfielder started his first game at St James’ Park since his January arrival as Chris Wood sealed the victory.

For Optus Sport, Shearer said that the midfielder was the best player on the pitch as he showed his quality once again.

“I thought he was the best player on the pitch, he was man of the match,” Shearer said of Bruno.

“He looked quality, comfortable, confident in everything he did; he wants to get on the ball in tight situations and he tried to make Newcastle tick.

“He was the one who added that little bit of quality, that finesse. When the game was scrappy, he was the one trying to find that tricky, tight pass that makes all the difference.”

It was a big result for the Toon Army last night on the back of three straight defeats which brought the drop zone slightly closer into view.

But they should be absolutely fine now, after getting this result to restore a bit of form and confidence.

It is all the more impressive that they have done this with so many injuries, and Eddie Howe deserves credit for that, as well as the way he introduced Bruno into English football.
