Alan Shearer and Ian Wright have both lauded Alfie Devine on Match of the Day (broadcast on BBC; 10/1; 18:53) after the 16-year-old scored Tottenham Hotspur’s fifth goal in their FA Cup win on Sunday.
Devine was brought on at half-time of Spurs’ tie with Marine. At the time, Tottenham were 4-0 up against the non-league side.

And it was Devine who rounded off the win with a superb finish. The former Wigan youngster fired the ball into the bottom corner at the goalkeeper’s near post.
It clearly meant a lot to the summer signing. He became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer having already become their youngest ever player earlier in the contest.

And both Shearer and Wright expressed their delight for the midfielder, with the latter taking particular joy in seeing just how happy Devine was to score.
“Alfie Devine, he’ll be very proud and so he should be,” Shearer told Match of the Day. “It was a brilliant finish, the way he shifts the ball, gives the keeper no chance. He just moves it, short backlift, near post, very, very good strike.”
“I love his celebration, so good to see,” Wright added. “I can’t even remember being 16. Great goal.”
It was always going to be difficult for all of Tottenham’s players to stake a claim for more chances because of the opposition.
But Devine has certainly provided further evidence that he is one to keep an eye out for. The goal was a moment of brilliance, regardless of the level the opposition play at.
And having taken little time to earn his first-team debut, it would be no surprise if he did not have to wait too long for his second appearance for the senior side.
