Arsenal are very much on the up when it comes to their standing among world football’s elites.

Indeed, the Gunners are very much re-establishing themselves as one of Europe’s elite.

Once upon a time, Arsenal were powerless to stop their key players leaving for bigger clubs. The likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Samir Nasri, Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez are but a few examples, but now, it feels as though something has changed.

Speaking on SuperSport, Shaun Wright-Phillips has been discussing Arsenal’s growth and the idea of Mikel Arteta returning to Manchester City to eventually replace Pep Guardiola.

Wright-Phillips stated that he can’t see Arteta coming back to City, claiming that he has no reason to ditch Arsenal right now as they’re one of the top teams in Europe once again.

Mikel Arteta won’t come back to Man City

Wright-Phillips spoke about the £158k-a-week man.

“Arsenal are going in that direction as well with the way they’re doing it,” Wright-Phillips said.

“Should Pep leave, Arteta isn’t coming back, he’s staying at the Emirates,” The host said.

“I didn’t expect Arteta to come back, and I don’t think any of the City fans did either. Nobody would expect a manager at a club like that to just get up and leave. He’s in the top three teams in the Premier League, if not Europe, right now, why would you get up and walk away from it?

Why would Mikel Arteta leave Arsenal?

Wright-Phillips is spot on here.

As much as Arteta probably has what it takes to replace Guardiola, he has no reason to leave Arsenal.

In a lot of ways, the Arsenal project is more exciting than the City project at the moment. They have a younger squad with more potential, while there’s more excitement among a fanbase that are desperate for major honours rather than being pretty much used to winning everything every year.

Arteta won’t be leaving Arsenal for Man City anytime soon.
