Arsenal legend Ian Wright has heaped praise on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, claiming that Monday night was the most energetic he has seen the Gunners skipper.

Mikel Arteta’s men started the game against the Eagles in fantastic fashion. They looked sharp, combined well in the final third and created a few decent chances. They took the lead through Aubameyang, who looked incredible.

The ex-Dortmund man looked like he wanted to prove a point on Monday. He was on the front foot from the first whistle, chasing down every ball and giving everything to inspire his teammates and get the crowd going.

He was rewarded with a goal, but sadly, his side couldn’t pick up a win. However, that hasn’t stopped Wright from singing Aubameyang’s praises. He has claimed that the Arsenal skipper ‘is on some sauce’ right now.

Ian Wright: Aubameyang looked really sharp

The legendary Englishman said on the Wrighty’s House Podcast: “I thought that this was the sharpest I’ve seen Aubameyang start.

“Did you see the work he was putting into this game? Headband Auba is on some sauce, bro!

“I was thinking ‘Auba, just slow down’, but then, you watched the way Arsenal, once we scored the goal, and it was a fantastic goal the way he finished that. His awareness and his finish, it was just brilliantly instinctive and what he’s all about if you get that ball in that box.”

Aubameyang was brilliant

Aubameyang has often been criticised for his lack of leadership at Arsenal. Some fans, pundits and the media have had a go at him for not leading the side from the front on multiple occasions, but that cannot be said of the Gunners skipper’s performance on Monday.

The 32-year-old led Arsenal’s press from the front brilliantly. He was arguably their best player on the night and he completely deserved his goal.

Aubameyang has scored six goals and has an assist in eight appearances this season. That’s not him at his absolute best, but it’s much better than how he performed last season, which is good news for Arsenal fans ahead of the upcoming games.
