Shaqiri's form means Liverpool can afford to miss out to Chelsea on Pulisic
Perhaps owing to manager Jurgen Klopp’s connections with Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool have been linked with a move for American winger Christian Pulisic in recent times.
The highly-rated forward has also reportedly attracted interest from Chelsea and look to have stolen a march on the Reds, by tabling a bid to sign the wideman in the summer transfer window.
ESPN claim that the Blues have bid over 50 million euros for Pulisic and while Dortmund will reportedly wait until the summer to decide on his future – giving Liverpool time to respond – a clue has been put out that sets Klopp on the back foot.
Calciomercato report that Pulisic’s countryman Eddie Johnson has dropped a huge hint about his next club – put a message on Instagram revealing his excitement about seeing the young flier play alongside Eden Hazard.
In truth, it’s not much of a sign, but at this juncture, it is worth noting that the performances of Xherdan Shaqiri so far this season mean that Liverpool do not even really need Pulisic.
Once upon a time, Shaqiri was the hot young prospect like Pulisic but it is only at Liverpool this season that he is showing his quality as a player capable of regularly deciding matches.
Chelsea have the much more pressing need for a new forward, and Liverpool can afford to let them have a clear run at signing Pulisic.
