Shani Tarashaj returns to Everton prematurely as his two-year spell with FC Emmen is cut short. The Swiss forward has never played for the Toffees.

Shani Tarashaj is back at Everton, according to the Liverpool Echo. The Swiss forward is supposed to be in the second year of a two-year loan deal with FC Emmen.

But after failing to record a single appearance for the side, they’ve ended the arrangement. The 25-year-old will return to Goodison Park – a place he’s never actually played, either.

Emmen explained that the decision was purely down to his injury record in a statement.

This comes just a couple of months after reports that Everton had extended Tarashaj’s contract specifically for this loan move. They re-negotiated the deal back in 2019, ahead of his move to Emmen.

In doing so, they extended his contract to 2021. That allowed Emmen to loan him for two years and spread his wages over that spell. You’d have to assume, then, that Tarashaj cut his wages in half and added an extra year.

Everton got him off the wage bill and Emmen could afford the young forward. Unfortunately, he’s now back at Everton, where it’s highly unlikely he’ll ever play.

A sad story, really. Everton signed Tarashaj for £3m back in 2016 and he looked like a promising player. He was just 21 but had scored 11 goals that year, earning a place in Switzerland’s Euro 2016 squad.

He featured in the tournament, too, and stayed in the squad for internationals later that year.

But injuries have crippled his career. Tarashaj has never scored more than once in a season since, despite being at four different clubs in that time. He’s never managed more than 15 games, in fact.

He’s still only 25, though. It seems like a long shot but hopefully, he can put the injuries behind him one day and enjoy a decent career. We can’t see that being at Everton, however.
