'Shall I leave now?': Thierry Henry stunned after what he was told about Tottenham last night

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry was on a punditry team with former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Clint Dempsey last night.

They were covering the return of the Champions League on CBS alongside ex-Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher.

Dempsey and Henry made their picks for who will win this season’s tournament, with the Frenchman going for Manchester City.

Dempsey picked out his old club Spurs as a dark horse for the competition, and here is how the exchange played out.

Dempsey: “I’ll do something different. I’ll pick a dark horse. I’m not biased at all but I’ll pick maybe Tottenham.”

Carragher and Henry burst out laughing

Henry: “Shall I leave now? What?

Dempsey: “Conte’s a winner. Not necessarily with a great record in the Champions League but I think  it’s them. They’re looking like they’ve gone strength to strength. They’ve done well in the transfer window.”

Henry: “Not that, not that. (Facing away) this is how I’m going to sit. I’m out.”

Antonio Conte has been brought to Tottenham to end their trophy drought but it would be a huge shock if he did it in the Champions League.

It is such a tough competition to win and one which throws up surprises every year.

Even City with all their wealth have not managed to do it and Real Madrid seem to have dominance over the tournament in the modern era.

Mauricio Pochettino of course took Spurs to the 2019 final, but that proved to be the peak of his reign and Conte is now trying to get the club to those heights again.
