Shaka Hislop has claimed that Liverpool’s Alisson Becker is the best goalkeeper in the world right now.
The Brazil international has been a huge success since he moved to Anfield in 2018 from Roma and catapulted himself into the conversation for one of the best shot-stoppers around.
He was included in the FIFA FIFPro Men’s team of the year for 2019 after helping the Reds clinch the Champions League title and his reputation has soared while on Merseyside.
Alisson, 27, has a phenomenal record of 41 clean sheets in 79 appearances for Liverpool and has pulled off some stunning reflex saves in that time.
He’s got a formidable backline in front of him, but is a real shining light for Jurgen Klopp’s team and often produces match-winning moments.
ESPN pundit Hislop was asked the best goalkeeper in the world and he named Alisson over two Liga Liga stars.
He decided the Liverpool man currently has the edge over Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Barcelona Marc-Andre ter Steven.
“Right now Alisson Becker he’s the best [goalkeeper] in the world,” Hislop told ESPN’s official Youtube account.
Virgil Van Dijk has played a colossal role at Liverpool since coming in at centre-back, but the role that Alisson has played is perhaps overlooked by others and having a world-class goalkeeper has transformed the side into a real powerhouse.
Adrian has proven himself to be a decent understudy at Anfield this season, but the drop off when Alisson is not in goal is massively obvious and they aren’t the same without him.
Most successful teams throughout history have been built on a solid defensive base and Liverpool certainly have that right now with a goalkeeper at his very peak.
