Shaka Hislop claims Tottenham are a perfect fit for Jadon Sancho

Shaka Hislop has claimed on ESPN that he feels Tottenham Hotspur are the perfect fit for Borussia Dortmund and England sensation Jadon Sancho ahead of the summer transfer window.

Sancho was left on England’s bench during a 5-1 win over Montenegro on Monday night, which coincidentally was his 19th birthday. He has shone at club level and national team level this season.

Nine goals and an enormous 17 assists in 35 appearances for Dortmund this season has seen The Telegraph report that both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are interested, for a whopping fee of £100million.

Tottenham have been mentioned but the chance of chairman Daniel Levy spending that kind of figure is unlikely. Former West Ham stopper Hislop, though, claimed Spurs are perfect for the four-time England cap.

“Spurs are a perfect fit for Sancho and his talent,” Hislop said. “I think Mauricio Pochettino will remain at Tottenham. Spurs have barely spent any money over the past couple of seasons.

“With the new stadium and Pochettino staying, he will be promised money to spend. If I’ve got money to spend and I’m looking for an up-and-coming talent, Jadon Sancho ticks all the boxes. I think Spurs spend heavy on him.”

TBR’s view

It would be bewildering for Sancho to leave Dortmund this summer. Rumours are flying about, but it must be remembered that Sancho is still only 19 and is enjoying what is his first full season at senior level.

For himself, Sancho should remain at least another year at Dortmund. But for Spurs, Sancho would be an incredible signing. Christian Eriksen looks likely to leave and Sancho would be a top replacement.

It would give Spurs a new look attack. The three in a 4-2-3-1 would look like this – Son Heung-min, Dele Alli and Sancho, all behind Kane. Combining at Spurs and for England, Hislop’s surprise claim may not be so surprising after all.
