Tottenham are said to be interested in signing Real Madrid left-back, Sergio Reguilon, and Sevilla could well be set to give the Premier League side a free run at him.

According to Marca, Reguilon is a target for Jose Mourinho as he looks to strengthen the full-back positions. He is close to landing Matt Doherty from Wolves, while Serge Aurier could be on his way out.

Reguilon spent last season on loan with Sevilla, impressing for the La Liga side and becoming a first-team regular. It would make sense, then, to see the Spanish side back in for the Madrid player.

But, according to the Express, Sevilla are set to pay Chelsea £18m to bring in Marcos Alonso. Clearly, then, this is an admission from them that they will not make a play for Reguilon.

This is good news for Tottenham and should give them a free run at landing the Spaniard.

Full-back looking good if Spurs can get this over the line

In modern football, you can’t underestimate the importance of having full-backs who can defend and contribute going forward.

Pep Guardiola is a massive advocate of this and he made it a priority to strengthen the full-back positions as soon as he took over at Manchester City.

It seems, then, that Mourinho has identified a similar issue with Spurs. Aurier is inconsistent, while Ben Davies is more defensive-minded than Danny Rose, who seems to have no future with the club.

If Mourinho can bring Reguilon in and get the deal for Doherty over the line, then Spurs should be much better. Reguilon contributed five assists and three goals last term, stats not to be sniffed at.

For the likes of Harry Kane at the top of the pitch, the signing of an attacking full-back such as Reguilon will be welcome news indeed.
