Seven potential Romelu Lukaku replacements for Everton this summer

Moussa Dembele

Questions will be asked about the level of competition Dembele is facing, playing in Scotland for Celtic, but the young Frenchman’s ability is clear.

Strong, fast and with an eye for goal Dembele is an exciting prospect at just 20 years old.

He joined Celtic in the summer from Fulham, despite reported interest from a host of Premier League clubs, and has since made remarkable progress in Scotland, scoring goals for fun at times.

He has shown the maturity to handle leading the line for a team of Celtic’s stature, and having lived and played in Britain for many years now Dembele could be ready to make the jump to Premier League football.

He has, of course, already played Premier League football, making his first start for Fulham against Everton, in fact. However, this was at the very start of his fledgling career.

Chelsea reportedly attempted to sign Dembele in the January transfer window, but no move came to fruition.

Dembele is not yet at the standard of Romelu Lukaku, so should Everton look to sign him, they would likely need to sign another more experienced striker as well to partner him up front, but his potential is clear for all to see.

Verdict

Losing Lukaku would be a devastating loss for Everton, as it would be for pretty much any team in Europe. The task of replacing his goals and all-round play would be difficult, but there are options out there for Everton.

It may cost a fair amount to replace Lukaku, but if Everton are serious about pushing for the top four in the league and fulfilling their ambitious plans for the future, they will need to spend big and add quality to their team.
