According to CBS Sports, Crystal Palace have lodged an enquiry to Arsenal over the availability of Reiss Nelson, who Brighton are also interested in.

What’s the story?

The south Londoners are keen to exploit the winger’s contract situation.

Arsenal have allowed Nelson’s contract to reach its final 12 months, so they must now decide whether to cash in, or risk losing him for nothing in 2022.

If he doesn’t leave the Emirates Stadium this summer, the £15,000-a-week man is able to discuss pre-contract agreements with other clubs from January.

One man who’s a big fan of the Crystal Palace target is Gary Lineker, who has spoken fondly of Arsenal’s No.24 in the past.

What did Gary Lineker think of Reiss Nelson?

Writing in The Times, the BBC Match of the Day host made it clear what he thinks of the 12-cap England Under-21 international.

Lineker wrote: “The talent we’ve got with England is frightening, fantastic. We’ve Trent Alexander-Arnold — unbelievable. Joe Gomez — what a player. Phil Foden — beautiful footballer.

“Jadon Sancho — unbelievable. Reiss Nelson — seriously good talent. Callum Hudson-Odoi — looks unbelievably good. Morgan Gibbs-White at Wolves — good.”

He isn’t wrong.

Nelson has shown his talent many times, not just in England, but also in Germany.

Bravely, he agreed to join Hoffenheim on loan when he was just 18.

Over in the Bundesliga, he scored seven goals in 29 appearances, impressing hugely in Germany’s top-flight.

If Patrick Vieira can exploit Nelson’s situation and get him to south London for a bargain, it would be an immense bit of business.
