‘Serious purchase’: Some Arsenal fans lose it over reported target who’d ‘have Bruno effect’

Some Arsenal fans have been reacting on social media to reports by Tutto Udinese, claiming Mikel Arteta is considering a summer transfer for Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul.

The Gunners are one of four clubs considering moves for the Argentine maestro, with Leeds United, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid. But the Emirates Stadium natives are yet to formalise their interest in the 27-year-old.

Instead, Arteta’s side are monitoring De Paul’s situation from afar along with their Premier League rivals. Atletico, however, have already stepped up their pursuit and now lead the race for the 23-cap playmaker.

De Paul’s agent, Mino Raiola, has also met with the Udinese hierarchy this week to discuss his client’s situation. The midfielder has another three years to run on his contract in Udine and is coming off a magnificent Serie A campaign.

Despite Udinese finishing the season 13th, De Paul thrived with nine goals and 11 assists in 36 appearances. All but one of his goal involvements came from a deep central midfield role and captained the Bianconeri from November.

The Stadio Friuli side are adamant that their prized asset will not now leave on the cheap. Goal report Udinese have rejected Atleti’s offer of £17m and defender Nehuen Perez. Instead, the Bianconeri want no less than £35m, with talks between the clubs continuing.

But Arsenal fans reacting on social media are desperate for Arteta to pursue a deal for De Paul. That’s because some feel the Argentine would be the ideal option to improve the Spaniard’s squad in north London.

A few have lost it at their side’s speculated interest in the Udinese star. Sharing that he would be the deal of the summer and would have a huge impact at the Emirates. One even likened his potential to that seen from Bruno Fernandes at Manchester United.

The Red Devils paid £47m rising to £68m with add-ons for Fernandes in January 2020 (BBC). He has since won their Player of the Year award twice and set the Premier League record this January when named Player of the Month for the fourth time in a calendar year.
