Jamie Shackleton has labelled Robbie Gotts a ‘serious player’ on Instagram after the former Leeds United starlet scored and provided an assist in Barrow’s second round replay in the FA Cup.

The League Two side have secured a third round spot where they will meet Barnsley after knocking out opposition from the league above on Wednesday.

In fact, Leeds fans know plenty about both of their goalscorers in the 2-0 win over Ipswich. It was Jordan Stevens who opened the scoring, being set up by Gotts. And the midfielder doubled the lead 10 minutes before the break.

Gotts has made a promising start to life with Barrow. And following the win, he took to Instagram to express his delight at scoring and providing an assist.

And amongst those to reply was Shackleton…

Leeds fans may wonder if Robbie Gotts could have had role at Elland Road this season

Of course, Gotts’ form may catch the eye of Leeds supporters. Marcelo Bielsa’s side are currently dealing with a nightmare injury crisis. The likes of Liam Cooper, Pascal Struijk, Kalvin Phillips, Rodrigo and Patrick Bamford are all sidelined right now.

Gotts was a player who looked destined for a first-team role at Elland Road a few years ago. He was named on the bench 35 times before making his first-team debut against Arsenal in the FA Cup in 2020.

Promotion appeared to hurt players such as Gotts. The 22-year-old spent last season out on loan in the EFL. And he was given the green light to leave permanently in the summer.

It was clear that Bielsa rated Gotts. And it would not be a surprise if he let the youngster go to ensure that his development did not stagnate.

Leeds may not be kicking themselves over letting Gotts go while he is in the fourth tier. But they may well be wondering if he could have had a role to play at this point had he stuck around.
