Gareth Bale stole the headlines once again for Wales last night and it’s quite easy to forget that the winger was actually back playing for Tottenham last season.
Now back in the wilderness with Real Madrid and not being considered for selection, it’s quite remarkable that Bale manages to turn in the performances he does for Wales. Bale is largely disliked in Spain, a quest fuelled mainly by the Spanish media, who use his love of golf against him.

However, for current Tottenham star and former Real Madrid star Sergio Reguilon, Bale is very much a legend of the game and the left-back has been recalling the first time he met his now former teammate before Reguilon was even a player himself.
“I was waiting for Gareth because I was the biggest fan of Gareth [when they joined together last season]. He knows!
I always speak with him about that. When I looked at Gareth I go running there and I said ‘Gareth please a picture’.
He said ‘okay yes, of course’ and after five years I was playing with him,” Reguilon said in a recent interview.
“For me I was dreaming to play with my idol and we’re still speaking now.”
TBR’s View: Bale Back To Tottenham Again Next Year
Under Antonio Conte, probably not. But you can bet your bottom dollar that a number of Spurs fans wouldn’t be averse to seeing Bale back in North London once again.
His performances for Wales show what a talent he still is. Obviously, there are reasons why Madrid don’t select him but there is no doubting his class on his day. Indeed, Ben Davies lauded him as ‘world class’ last year, and it’s easy to see why.
Reguilon’s comments are interesting in that Bale’s presence could inspire some younger players at Spurs. If Conte feels there is a place for him, then another reunion might be on the cards after all. After all, he has been linked in the last few months once again.
