Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero was called back into the Argentinian side for their game against Poland in Qatar last night.

Lionel Scaloni’s men needed things to go their way to qualify for the next round of the World Cup. Goals from Alexis MacAllister and Julian Alvarez sealed the deal, but it was Romero who caught our eye.

After Argentina lost their opening game against Saudi Arabia, Romero came under immense criticism.

The Tottenham defender didn’t have a great game at all, and unsurprisingly, he was dropped by Scaloni for the clash against Mexico a few days ago.

Fans wondered ahead of the game last night whether Romero would be brought back into the team. Scaloni did just that, which meant Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez had to settle for a spot on the bench.

The Tottenham man was so much better last night than he was in the opening game against Saudi Arabia. He was composed on the ball, handled Robert Lewandowski pretty well and showed why Spurs fans rate him so highly.

Romero took to Instagram after the game to celebrate his side’s victory. His good pals Dejan Kulusevski and Sergio Reguilon showed him some love in the replies. Check them out below!

A look at his stats vs Poland

Romero played the full 90 minutes for Argentina for the first time in this year’s World Cup last night.

The Tottenham man made three clearances and not a single Polish player managed to dribble past him in the entire game. He also won three of his five attempted aerial duels, which is a decent return.

In possession, Romero had 83 touches of the ball. He completed 70 of his attempted 78 passes, maintaining a really impressive 90 per cent passing accuracy. (SofaScore)

It was a really solid display by the Tottenham defender, and he will likely keep his place when Argentina take on Australia in the next round of the competition.
