Sergio Reguilon already showing Tottenham value, £25m looks a bargain – TBR View

Tottenham surrendered a three goal lead yesterday against West Ham to put a slight dampener on what has been a superb start to the season for Jose Mourinho’s men.

A last-gasp strike from Manuel Lanzini proved to be the dagger in the heart for Spurs in a pulsating tie in north London, in which Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son had once again combined to devastating effect.

The two forwards are in the form of their lives at the moment. Every time they go forward, it looks like a goal is going to come along.

However, they’ve also been aided by a number of fine summer signings. We’ve already talked on this site about how good Hojbjerg will prove to be in the long-run. But another player who is looking like a fine piece of business for Spurs is Spanish full-back, Sergio Reguilon.

The former Madrid star was once again brilliant – especially going forward – and provided a pin-point Beckham-esque cross for Kane to nod home his second goal of the game.

While it’s obvious to anyone looking on that Reguilon has a cultured left-foot, the role he is playing in the team is helping get the best out of Son and Kane, too.

Reguilon’s willingness to bomb down the left flank is allowing Son to drift inside that little bit more. That, in turn, is seeing Kane drop deeper to get more involved, leading to the sort of passes we saw the England skipper deliver for Son for the opener.

Finally, when he does get the ball, Reguilon – crucially – has the quality to cause problems. He’s already in the mix for dead-ball duties at the club as well, highlighting his talent in terms of delivery.

Tottenham paid a reported £25m to Real Madrid for the Spain star. And at the moment, that is looking like money that has been spent very wisely indeed.
