Tottenham Hotspur fans have not been happy with the performances of Kieran Trippier this season. The England international has not been at his best this term, with his defensive frailties costing Mauricio Pochettino’s men at times.
It has seen many Tottenham fans calling for Spurs to play Serge Aurier more frequently. The Ivorian is something of an enigma for Tottenham but put in a brilliant performance against Borussia Dortmund in midweek which had Tottenham fans believing he might have turned things around from his previous dodgy form.
However, yesterday was one of those games where Tottenham fans just saw the worst of their right-back. The £23 million (The Guardian) defender was poor throughout as Tottenham’s slim title hopes faded away.
Aurier was missing for the cross that eventually went out of play for Burnley’s first from the corner. It was his awful clearance that led to Burnley scoring the crucial second goal as well.
It was the sort of display that Tottenham fans, and those at his former club PSG, have gotten unfortunately used to.
The Ivorian is simply too erratic as a first-team defender and Tottenham fans are surely fed up of their troubles in the position this season. With Trippier struggling and doubts over Aurier, it would be no surprise to see Tottenham improve at right-back in the summer.
