Selling Adam Forshaw makes sense for Leeds United but not to potential promotion rivals

Leeds United may have to field an offer for Adam Forshaw this summer. The Daily Mail is reporting that Fulham are keen on signing the midfielder this summer.

The report claims Fulham boss Scott Parker sees Forshaw as a player who ‘can dominate possession’ for his Cottagers.

On the one hand, Leeds fans are probably very open to the idea.

Forshaw has been inconsistent at Elland Road. The midfielder was signed from Middlesbrough for a fee reported by the Daily Mail to be worth £4.5 million in January 2018.

An experienced Championship promotion contender, it was hoped he would thrive at Elland Road.

However, he has not won over the fans at Leeds with his form often fleeting and consistent injury trouble not allowing a long-term run.

But the sale would be a massive risk for Leeds.

Having come down from the Premier League, Fulham must be considered a promotion rival for Leeds. Forshaw may not have clicked at Leeds, but his history at Middlesbrough shows he can be a key player in promotion pushes.

Leeds need funds to make signings and Forshaw would seem expendable. But if he goes on to help Fulham to the Premier League at Leeds’ expense, it would quickly prove a bad decision.
