Sunderland fans are probably wondering why on earth the Black Cats decided to let Andrew Nelson leave in January.
The 21-year-old has enjoyed a stunning start to life at new club Dundee. Last night the attacker bagged two goals as Dundee drew 2-2 with Kilmarnock. It took his tally for his new club to three goals in five games.
When they sold the player, Sunderland boss Jack Ross claimed it was a ‘sensible’ time to let the player go, as he told the Sunderland Echo.
“He’s 21 now, he needs to be playing football and progressing his career.
“The opportunity there for him was sensible to pursue.”
The same report did, however, highlight one way in which Sunderland have covered their bases with his exit. Sunderland have reportedly included a sell-on clause in his Dundee transfer.
That now looks a shrewd piece of business.

Nelson has started life strong north of the border. Say he continues to progress in this way and a team in the Football League or one of the Old Firm teams decide to throw cash at his potential recruitment.
Sunderland will be well compensated for bringing this talented lad through their ranks for over a decade.
Hopefully, Nelson can go on to thrive. If he ends up making Sunderland a little bit more money down the line, then the Black Cats will be happy with that as well.
