‘Sell him asap’: Some West Ham fans react to reported interest in their player who ‘could be a beast’

Some West Ham United fans have been reacting on social media to reports by Pianeta Milan, claiming AC Milan are considering a move to sign Issa Diop.

The Serie A giants are said to have assessed the French centre-half’s situation as Stefano Pioli eyes replacements for Alessio Romagnoli. Contact has also already been made with Diop’s representatives to sound out his interest.

AC Milan believe Diop would suit their new-look unit next season after signing Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori on a permanent deal. The Englishman spent the latter half of last term on loan at the San Siro and forced Romagnoli out of the XI.

Romagnoli is now entering the final year of his contract at Milan, who are unlikely to offer a new deal. The Rossoneri will not meet his request for a pay rise and are instead open to their captain leaving.

Yet Diop could move to Milan irrespective of Romagnoli’s future this summer. AC are considering a potential loan-to-buy deal for the West Ham defender, after he endured a difficult campaign last term.

Diop only started 15 of his 18 Premier League appearances under David Moyes and played just 117 minutes between September and February. His return to the side also only came after Angelo Ogbonna sustained an ankle sprain.

The 24-year-old has two years remaining on the £67,000-per-week contract he signed after joining the Irons in a then club-record £22million deal in 2018.

West Ham fans react to AC Milan eying Diop transfer

But some West Ham fans reacting on social media to reports of AC Milan eying a move for Diop are split over whether or not Moyes should cash-in. Some still feel the centre-half still has the potential to become a real star in east London.

However, others are much more willing to listen to the Rossoneri’s offer and letting Diop leave for the right fee. Some have even urged Moyes to sell him as soon as possible and doubt the Hammers receiving a high sum.

West Ham valued Diop as high as £80m in 2019 amid interest from Arsenal and Manchester United, per Foot Mercato. Inter Milan and La Liga sides were also keen, while PSG and Barcelona were told to pay £60m, according to Sky Sports. Yet The Athletic claimed Liverpool faced paying just £20m in January.

So, here are some of the messages shared as West Ham fans reacted to AC Milan eying a loan-to-buy deal for Diop this summer…
