‘Seen Dubravka do more’, ‘Good luck’: Newcastle fans react as Joselu leaves St James’ Park

Newcastle United have this afternoon announced on their official website that Joselu has departed the club.

The 29-year-old has returned to La Liga to pen terms with Alaves following two years at St James’ Park.

In 53 appearances for the Magpies, the Spaniard bagged seven goals and registered two assists.

Joselu struggled to pin down a regular place in Rafa Benitez’s team and spent the back end of last season out of the squad altogether.

Following his departure from the club he took to Twitter to thank the loyal supporters, tweeting:

What he lacked in goalscoring ability the forward made up in energy and hard work – something the Newcastle fans warmed to him for.

It has been a summer of upheaval at the football club and the departure of another player isn’t an ideal scenario.

Whoever is tasked with replacing Benitez will need to get to work on the recruitment side of things straight away.

Star man Ayoze Perez has already departed for Leicester, whilst Sean Longstaff is attracting interest from Manchester United.

Following news of another departure, Newcastle fans took to Twitter to offer Joselu their very best wishes.
