Reported Leeds United target Ivan Toney has been described by Dean Hammond as a “natural goalscorer” who “seems able to do everything”.

According to a TEAMtalk report from earlier in March, the Whites have asked to be kept informed of the Brentford striker’s situation.

Toney has been superb for the Bees since his move from Peterborough last year, registering 25 goals and nine assists in 33 Championship appearances.

It’s little surprise that the 24-year-old is already being linked with a Premier League move despite only changing clubs a few months ago.

As well as Leeds, several other English top-flight clubs have reportedly also expressed an interest in Toney, who is believed to be valued at £30million.

Arsenal, West Ham, Wolves and Leicester are also said to be eyeing the former Newcastle man.

And speaking to Sussex Live, former Brighton midfielder Hammond believes Toney would be a great shout for the Seagulls.

“I think someone like a Toney for Brighton would be brilliant,” he said. “He seems to be able to do everything.

“He’s a natural goalscorer, he looks like he’s got a good turn of pace, he’s playing in a good Brentford side. Someone like him would be brilliant.

“But he is doing so well at Brentford, they will be looking to get promoted and there are other clubs that will be looking at him.

“He will cost a lot of money, so then you are in competition with a lot of other clubs and that can be difficult.”

Brentford got themselves an absolute bargain in Toney for an initial £5million plus another £5million in potential add-ons.

Going by the above speculation, the Bees stand to treble their money within the space of less than a year.

That said, Premier League promotion would be much more profitable, and with Brentford just three points off second place in the Championship table, they will fancy their chances.

Toney would be a great asset for Leeds or any other Premier League club, but with his contract running until 2025, the ball is firmly in Brentford’s court and he won’t come cheap.
