Ruben Amorim is on Spurs’ reserve list alongside Roberto De Zerbi and Xabi Alonso.

Speaking on The Tottenham Way Podcast, The Times’ Tom Allnutt has been discussing Spurs’ hunt for a new manager, and much like other reporters, he’s claimed that Julian Nagelsmann is the top target for the club.

However, with Nagelsmann stalling on talks due to a lack of clarity over the Sporting Director situation, Spurs have a list of backups, and according to Allnutt, Amorim, De Zerbi and Alonso are on that list.

Spurs’ backup list

Allnutt shared what he knows about Spurs’ second-choice managers.

“If they can’t persuade him to take over, and we know there are obstacles there, the second-tier list is a list of names that tick all of the profile boxes we mention there now, Ruben Amorim, De Zerbi, Xabi Alonso there’s interst there now,” Allnutt said.

They have a type

From this update, it’s clear to see exactly what Tottenham are looking for when they go for a new manager.

Indeed, the oldest gaffer mentioned here is just 43 years old in the shape of De Zerbi, so it’s quite clear to see that Spurs want a new manager who is young with fresh ideas.

Perhaps the most intriguing gaffer on this list is Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese gaffer has been absolutely brilliant at Sporting in recent years, and while De Zerbi and Alonso have had brilliant seasons, Amorim has done it over a longer period of time.

It remains to be seen who Spurs go for, but whether it’s Nagelsmann, Amorim, Alonso or De Zerbi, it looks as though the future may well be bright at the north London club.
