Newcastle United’s academy graduate Sean Longstaff is enjoying the time of his life right now, as the first-team door has opened for him in recent weeks.

The 21-year-old midfielder is in great form right now and has featured in the last three consecutive Premier League games.

He is an all-action central midfielder adjusting to life at senior level with the Magpies and so far has looked unfazed by the step up.

Longstaff is by no means the finished article yet, but is showing a maturity and braveness on the ball to suggest he has a bright future.

He will be wary that competition for places will crank up with the imminent returns of Jonjo Shelvey and Mo Diame, while Ki Sung-Yueng is also away on international duty at the Asian Cup.

There may also be more bad news on the horizon for the midfielder that could leave him uneasy.

According to Estadio Deportivo, Newcastle and Fulham are both interested in signing enforcer Ibrahim Amadou from La Liga club Sevilla.

Amadou is a defensive midfielder that previously made a name for himself in France with Lille and even became their captain.

He helped Sevilla overcome Barcelona 2-0 in the cup on Wednesday and can also slot into defence if needed.

The 25-year-old is a powerhouse that would surely be in the running for a starting position if he ended up at St James’ Park and that would have an impact on Longstaff’s chances.

But the report details that Sevilla would be reluctant to offload Amadou this month and that should keep Longstaff closer to the senior XI.
