Newcastle United star Sean Longstaff has claimed that Joelinton is always the best player in training sessions.
The Magpies were excellent against Manchester United last night. They arguably even deserved to win the game, but an Edinson Cavani goal helped the Red Devils take home a point from St James’ Park yesterday.
Joelinton played in central midfield last night and the Brazilian didn’t look out of place at all. He was the best player on the pitch in many people’s eyes and although his display surprised many of us, it was normal for Longstaff, who sees him every day.
The 24-year-old claimed that there’s nobody better than Joelinton in Newcastle’s training sessions.
Sean Longstaff: Joelinton is always the best in Newcastle training
The midfielder told Sky Sports after the game: “To be honest, if you ask anyone in the dressing room, we know he’s that good regardless of what the outside people say.
“I think the disrespect he gets is a disgrace, to be honest. I can honestly say, every day in training he’s the best player and if he’s on your team, you win in training. If you get Joe, you’re buzzing in training.
“Everyone rates him so highly. Some of the noise from outside is really disrespectful and if you actually watch us enough and know what you’re watching, you realise how good he is. I’m so happy for him and when I’m playing next to him, it makes it so much easier.”
TBR View:
Joelinton has had a lot of criticism to deal with at Newcastle, some of them a bit over the top.
Signed by Steve Bruce in 2019 for a club-record fee, the Brazilian was asked to play up front on his own. That was something he wasn’t used to and unsurprisingly, he struggled.
Some fans, pundits and the media had a lot to say about Joelinton but he took it in his stride and carried on working. He is now reaping the rewards and Eddie Howe deserves a ton of credit for using him in a position where he’s comfortable.
Joelinton now has to build on that incredible performance and show the world what he’s all about. If he does, Newcastle’s survival hopes will increase considerably this season.
