Newcastle United duo Sean Longstaff and Andy Carroll have fired warnings to their team-mates after the 5-0 thumping against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.
It has been a poor start to the season for the Magpies and the result at the weekend compounded the misery and the local lads have realised something needs to change.
As per the Daily Mirror, Longstaff said: “It’s embarrassing. There’s nothing else to say. That’s not good enough. We must be much, much better. It’s a massive wake-up call. It’s hard for the fans to take. We should never put them in the position where they’re cheering just for the sake of it. Sunday night, late game, miles away from home.”
And Carroll stated, according to the Sun: “It was absolutely shocking. The fans singing all the way through, I felt sorry for them. The second half, I can’t even tell you how bad it was. We gave up, completely gave up. What happened was a disgrace. It was absolutely terrible. The gaffer was fuming and rightly so.”

TBR’s View – Actions will speak louder than words for Newcastle
Both players are local boys who feel deep affection for the club and the fact that they both mentioned the fans shows that they do genuinely acknowledge their situation.
But it takes more than words and although the players are swimming against the tide in terms of a shocking board and an unsuitable manager, they have to show more fight.
Do the supporters expect that to happen? Probably not, because they’ve been here many times before in recent years and Steve Bruce looks unable to bring about change.
