Burnley manager Sean Dyche has admitted the contract offer he made to Tom Heaton was blown out of the water by Aston Villa.
As per Lancashire Live, Dyche said he wanted to keep the three-cap England international but couldn’t compete with the money Villa were offering.
Dyche said: “It was just a simple equation. He got offered a nice offer for his family as well, which is important at his age, something we couldn’t compete with, and that’s another sign of the market – someone new to the Premier League can out pay us considerably.
“So he had to do that, and it’s right and proper players do that, and from our point of view, when it hit a certain mark, everyone agreed that’s the mark it takes to do the deal.”

It’s interesting that a newly-promoted side such as Villa were able to blow a now established Premier League club like Burnley out of the water over Heaton.
When players get over 30, clubs can be very specific over what they’ll offer, although perhaps the Clarets could have made allowances for a goalkeeper who has plenty to give and was the club’s captain last season.
Either way, Burnley’s loss is Villa’s gain and they have a hugely experienced Premier League stopper with great leadership qualities and can also compete very competitively in the transfer market once more.
