Fabrizio Romano has said Takehiro Tomiyasu has signed a new contract with Arsenal after weeks of talks with the Gunners over fresh terms.

The Japanese international has been one of Arsenal’s best players this season with the 25-year-old defender impressing at both left-back and right-back this campaign.

With Tomiyasu away at the Asia Cup with Japan, the north London side have been without the fullback for some time, with the defender a figure many fans are currently missing in the squad.

Yet as reported by Romano, Tomiyasu has now agreed a new contract to extend his stay with Arsenal, with an official announcement expected to be made soon on the news.

Having just beaten Liverpool 3-1 on the weekend in one of the biggest Premier League results of the season, news of Tomiyasu signing a new contract will be most welcome by Arsenal supporters.

And given how good the defender has been this season, there’s every chance that Tomiyasu will be back in the Arsenal starting XI at the first possible chance, with the fullback enjoying his best year yet for the Gunners.

Whilst injuries have been annoying, there’s no denying that Tomiyasu has been one of Arsenal’s best and most important players this season.

The defender has established himself as a start for Mikel Arteta either at right-back or at left-back, with Tomiyasu flourishing in either position with ease and grace.

And the Japanese international signing a new contract is yet again more positive news for Arsenal’s future, with the Gunners now having the majority of their star names tied down to long-term deals.

Indeed, if Tomiyasu can remain fit, there’s no telling how far the defender can take Arsenal, with the Gunners a better side with the former Bologna man in the backline than out of the team.
