Arsenal’s transfer calls over the past few years have usually been spot on.
Most of their new signings have been massive hits, while the players they have decided to let go haven’t exactly pulled up any trees elsewhere.
However, as with any club, Arsenal can get a few wrong, and it looks like they may have made a bit of a mistake this summer.
Indeed, speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off Podcast, Chris Sutton has stated that he still can’t quite get his head around why Arsenal allowed Kieran Tierney to leave on loan this summer after the Gunners continue to experience consistent issues at left-back.

Why did Arsenal let Tierney go?
Sutton shared his verdict on the £25m defender.
“One thing I have scratched my head about is why did he let Kieran Tierney go? There’s nothing he could’ve done about Timber, but Kiwior going in at left-back and Tomiyasu coming on. They lack balance on that side and that seems to be a bit of a headscratcher that decision,” Sutton said.
Backfired
Letting Tierney go at the time didn’t look like the worst idea in the world. After all, both Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jurrien Timber were in the squad ready to step up.
However, as luck would have it, both Zinchenko and Timber are now out injured at the same time, and that’s led to Jakub Kiwior shifting to full-back where he has struggled.
Tierney would’ve been a much better option than Kiwior in recent weeks in that position it has to be said.
Letting Tierney go out on loan currently looks like a bit of a mistake, but, at the same time, who could’ve seen this sort of injury crisis at left-back coming?
Luckily, both Zinchenko and Timber should be back sooner rather than later and the full-back crisis at Arsenal should subside.
