TV pundit Scott Minto has claimed a source has told him that Real Madrid are ‘knocking on the door’ of West Ham United younster Declan Rice.
Apparently los Blancos officials have been on the charm offensive with Rice and have even spoken to his family.
Rice has been in excellent form this season and recently made his senior England debut after switching allegiances from the Republic of Ireland.
The 20-year-old has been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City, but former Hammers defender Minto believes the two Manchester clubs aren’t the only sides keen.
He said on Stadium Astro: “I’m hearing that even Real Madrid are knocking on the door and speaking to his family. I’m not going to tell you who, but it’s a reliable source.”
If Minto’s source really is as reliable as he says it is, then it really sums up Rice’s amazing rise over the past year.
He genuinely has been that good for West Ham, although it would be a surprise if Real Madrid really are interested in signing him at this stage.
Los Blancos have had a dismal season and will supposedly seek to rebuild this summer following Zinedine Zidane’s return as head coach.
A host of names have been linked with the Spanish giants in recent weeks, but none of the tabloids have previously reported any interest in Rice.
Manuel Pellegrini recently claimed it would take ‘an important amount’ for West Ham to sell Rice, with The Mirror reporting the player is rated at £60 million.
With Rice having only signed a new deal worth £40,000-a-week back in December (The Daily Mail), Irons supporters will certainly hope to see him stick around for a few years longer at their club yet.
