Scott McKenna comments should encourage Celtic into £7m swoop

Celtic were linked with a move for Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna throughout the summer. The 21-year-old Scotland international has been in fine form for the Dons and Celtic needed central defensive reinforcements.

Celtic, according to the BBC, had an offer of £3.5 million for the player rejected. This was clearly nowhere near his asking price. Aston Villa had a late £7 million offer turned down, with Aberdeen unable to find a replacement in the time left in the transfer window to sanction a deal they would have likely accepted.

This week the player has been speaking about those links.

He admitted that he was flattered by links to two big clubs and Celtic should take the comments as a positive.

“Offers coming in like that are very flattering. If I keep playing well there will be more to come in the years ahead.

“If there is an offer that is right I will get a chance to move on but now I am fully focused and enjoying playing for Aberdeen and wanting to be part of a successful team, winning trophies.”

Aston Villa may have been keen in the summer, but it is all change at Villa Park. With a new manager, their interest may no longer be as strong.

It leaves Celtic in pole position to capitalise on the situation and bring McKenna to Celtic Park.

They desperately need to improve their centre-back position and McKenna is the perfect man for the job. However, they are going to need to at least double their offer from the summer for any chance of this deal going through.
