Carney Chukwuemeka and Tottenham target Alex Scott lauded Dane Scarlett on Instagram in reaction to the striker’s first goal for Portsmouth on Saturday.

Scarlett has taken a little while to really get going at Fratton Park. But he provided his first assist of the season in their previous game.

And he has now opened his account against Port Vale this weekend. The 18-year-old was played in for the game’s only goal after 25 minutes. Scarlett initially did well to break away from the defence.

It did seem like he may be about to squander the chance after a hefty touch. But Scarlett managed to just beat the goalkeeper to the ball and poke it into the far corner for what proved to be the winner.

Of course, the hopes are extremely high for Scarlett. And Spurs fans will hope that that goal proves to be the first of many while he is away from North London.

But the signs are certainly promising. Obviously, Harry Kane has shown that loan spells in the early stages of a career are not just about goals. But that will do Scarlett’s confidence the world of good.

Unsurprisingly, Scarlett was keen to take to Instagram to comment on the goal and the win. And plenty of players were quick to respond with messages of support…

Scarlettt and Scott have played together for England’s under-19s. But perhaps there is a chance that the pair could be playing together at Tottenham one day in the future.

Reports have claimed that Spurs are scouting the Bristol City starlet. And they are extremely interested in the teenager.

Obviously, he is more likely to play regularly at Ashton Gate. But with prospects such as Scarlett in the ranks at Tottenham, perhaps the opportunity to make the move will appeal to Scott if Spurs do pursue a deal.
