Scott Hogan reportedly came back to Aston Villa pre-season training early

Aston Villa outcast Scott Hogan has returned to the club early for pre-season in a bid to save his Villa Park career, according to Birmingham Live.

They report that the Republic of Ireland international is entitled to extra time off because he was involved in European Championship qualifiers after the season ended.

But he has apparently decided to cut that break short because he is desperate to impress Dean Smith and force his way back into Villa’s plans as they gear up for their return to the Premier League.

After Tammy Abraham’s return to Chelsea at the end of his loan spell, Smith may just be able to use some extra firepower despite the arrival of Wesley this summer.

Hogan’s injury problems mean it is very much up in the air whether he can come back to form and make a real go of it in the Premier League – but stranger things have happened.

But after years where the likes of Ross McCormack and Micah Richards have taken their hefty salaries and put no effort in, Villa fans will likely be impressed by Hogan’s commitment to the cause.

That’s the kind of attitude the fans like – and even if Hogan ends up moving on, there will likely be plenty of sympathy among the fans for how things worked out.
