Scott Brown urges Celtic to keep Fraser Forster for 2020-21 campaign

Scott Brown has told the Scottish Sun that he is desperate for Celtic to keep goalkeeper Fraser Forster at the club as the Hoops look to stretch their consecutive run of Scottish Premiership trophies to 10 in a row.

Forster, 32, rejoined Celtic last summer on a season-long loan after previously impressing during a four-year spell at the club between 2010 and 2014 – in which he clocked up 197 appearances. This season, he kept 17 clean sheets in 39 games.

It remains to be seen how much Southampton will charge for Forster’s services if Celtic want to secure the £70,000-a-week goalkeeper (Spotrac), but it is clear that they may have to part with a large proportion of wages and transfer fees.

However, there is always the chance that a second loan spell could be organised for the ex-Newcastle stopper. Captain Brown is desperate to see Forster remain at Celtic next season, as they look to secure 10 in a row.

“It would be good to keep as many players as we possibly can into next season who know what it’s like to win the trophy,” Brown said. “Things can change in football. Players can move on and changes can happen. That’s part of the game.

“But it would be great if all the lads could still be here and we could go on again into next season, if it was possible. I don’t know what the situation is with the boys on loan. I’m not sure what happens there, but it would be great to get big Fraser back.”

TBR’s view – Forster would significantly improve 10-in-a-row chances

Yes, Celtic will be favourites going into next season given the array of talent they boast including Brown himself, Ryan Christie, James Forrest and especially Odsonne Edouard – if they keep the French striker.

But Forster has been arguably one of Celtic’s best performers this season, proving to be a brick wall between the sticks and when Celtic’s excellent defence has failed to plug a gap – Forster has been on hand to stop their opposition.

Keeping him, even on loan for another season, would see Celtic massively improve their chance of securing 10 in a row.
