Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield has backed Alfredo Morelos to bounce back from his Betfred Cup final penalty miss against Celtic.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Arfield has made it clear that the whole club is behind him and that his team-mates won’t need to lift him despite the heartbreak.
Asked if Morelos would need a lift, Arfield said: “Not at all. He has dug us out of so many holes this season, he is a fantastic player and a great character. Everybody misses penalties and it is what it is.
“We are fully behind him but I don’t think he needs that. He is a character that knows what he’s all about, we know what he’s all about, the fans know what he’s all about. He will bounce back for sure.”
TBR’s View – Rangers have to take confidence from dominant display into the title race
When a team plays as well as Rangers did yesterday and doesn’t get the win against a rival which has been dominant for so long, it creates the psychological illusion that their opponents are invincible.
It might feel like that in the immediate aftermath for Rangers – ‘what more do we have to do to beat Celtic and win a trophy?’ – but in actual fact, their performance shows how close they are to making that breakthrough.
They have to keep believing in what they’re doing and not allow the crushing defeat yesterday to have a knock-on effect. Rangers need to get right back on Celtic’s coattails in the league and put the loss behind them. Morelos will be pivotal to doing that.
