Schalke are desperate to re-sign Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac this summer, according to a report by German outlet Bild.
They report that after a disappointing season which saw them finish 14th in the Bundesliga, the German outfit are keen to engineer an overhaul this summer.
That apparently entails bringing in more players who ‘get’ the club and Kolasinac falls into that category, having played for the club between 2012 and 2017.
But if there’s any chance Unai Emery can get a deal done for Kolasinac, he should be all over it because the defender is simply not up to the task at the Emirates Stadium.
He is strong and works hard, but Wednesday’s Europa League final showed up how much he is lacking when the ball is at his feet, in terms of being able to beat his man or deliver a quality ball into the box.
Emery needs to raise funds somehow to reshape a squad that has gone stale and still lacks a discernible backbone and given that Schalke are so keen to do a deal for Kolasinac, the Gunners should be looking to explore that avenue.
