Everton striker Cenk Tosun is attracting interest from the Bundesliga over a summer move, according to a report by Turkish outlet Asist Analiz.
The report claims that Borussia Dortmund – who have once again qualified for next season’s Champions League – and their local rivals Schalke want the Turkish international.
That is despite Tosun slipping down Marco Silva’s striking pecking order during 2018/19, when he used Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin more regularly as the central striker.
Schalke and Dortmund have both reportedly made email contact with the Toffees over the striker, who has played in Germany before, with Europa League semi-finalists Eintracht Frankfurt.
Tosun, who Spotrac claim earns £60,000 a week at Goodison Park, was Sam Allardyce’s major striking gamble during his mercifully brief spell on Merseyside, but it simply hasn’t worked out.
Everton were crying out for a dominant striker during the course of the season but find themselves with an expensive bust largely sitting on the sidelines while looking for the next cab off the rank to adequately replace Romelu Lukaku.
That said, the calibre of the clubs in the chase for Tosun indicates that he has talent – perhaps he just needs to leave English football in order to rediscover his best form.
