They believe Southgate is showing favouritism to players employed by the so-called big six in the Premier League.

While Grealish was an Aston Villa player, the £100m man struggled for a starting place, and was mostly limited to appearances from the bench.

However, in the first international game since the 25-year-old’s move to Manchester City, he was named in the starting XI.

Coincidence? Probably not.

The timing of this is very suspicious.

The fact Southgate handed Jadon Sancho his first EURO 2020 start right after his £73m move to Manchester United was announced suggests he does favour those playing for a ‘big six’ side.

You could even argue that Tyrone Mings suffered another example of this during EURO 2020.

After starring in the opening two games against Croatia and Scotland, the Aston Villa captain was dropped as soon as Harry Maguire returned.

Despite his ties to the Villans as an ex-player, it does seem as if Southgate has some hesitance in starting Dean Smith’s players.
