Liverpool’s transfer window is finally showing signs of life as they prepare for a whirlwind spell ahead of deadline day.

Federico Chiesa has emerged as a target for the Reds and initial talks with Juventus have taken place over a potential transfer.

The Italian, however, isn’t the only attacker who has been linked with the club in the dying embers of the transfer window.

Liverpool are also keeping tabs on Kingsley Coman, with the Frenchman linked with a departure before the transfer deadline.

And now, if reports are to be believed, Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal have jumped ahead of Liverpool in the race to sign Coman.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Al Hilal have made an important offer to sign Coman ahead of the transfer deadline.

The French international is yet to officially decide if he wants to leave Bayern Munich, keeping the door open to a potential transfer.

Romano also states that Barcelona boss Hansi Flick is an ‘admirer’ of Coman, having worked with him during their time together at the Allianz Arena.

With Liverpool also in the mix, the ball is firmly on Coman’s court as he attempts to make a crucial decision involving his future.

Do Liverpool really need Coman?

Coman was hailed as an outstanding player by ex-Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes and has made 296 appearances for the club since joining in 2015.

His injury record doesn’t make for good reading, though, having missed 45 games over the past three seasons for Bayern Munich.

With three years left on his current deal, the Bavarian giants are likely to demand a sizable fee, which could be viewed as another stumbling block.

Liverpool have five quality attackers in Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo, so they are better off spending money on other areas of the pitch.

Even if Arne Slot feels the need for attacking reinforcements, he’d be better off targeting Chiesa who is available for around £15m this summer.

Stylistically, the Italian winger would be a better fit for Liverpool as he’s capable of playing on the right wing, with Salah the Reds’ only option on that flank.

Despite his injury struggles, Coman is a fantastic player in his own right and won’t be short of suitors.

Whether or not Liverpool respond to Al Hilal’s bid, however, remains to be seen.
